  • Old City Hall - 13 Crosswicks St, Bordentown, NJ

On a cold day in February 1901, two trains barreled down the track, neither expecting to meet the other. After rounding a long curve, chaos erupted. The engines telescoped one another causing a horrific domino effect, one car piling atop another and all of it set aflame. Far removed from immediate assistance, survivors struggled to save themselves amidst the darkness and bitter cold.

Harrowing History is back to reveal a different side of our illustrious railroading history. Hear what it was like to live through the disastrous crash between a Bordentown local train and the "Nellie Bly" express from multiple perspectives. Costumed storytellers will take on roles of actual people who lived the tale.

Not only is this a local tale of tragedy and loss, but one of changing innovation, industry, the railroad’s growth and power, and the human connection to it all. You may think you know this story, but we’re willing to bet we’ll reveal more than a few facts you’ve never heard before!

There will be a brief Q&A with the creator and tellers after each show.
